SIBERIAN AND NEVA MASQUERADE CATS
The Siberian is an ancient breed that has been known in Russia for centuries. They are generally described as heavy-bodied cats with broad cheekbones and rounded muzzles. The coat is semi-longhaired with a long ruff, trousers and a broad bushy tail.
Siberians are accepted in all coat colours and patterns except chocolate, cinnamon, fawn and lilac. There is evidence to suggest that people normally displaying an allergic reaction to cats, show little or no reaction to Siberians.
NEVA MASQUERADES
The Neva Masquerade is the name chosen by
Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe) to describe the colourpoint siberian. They have never been recognised by FIFe or been able to gain championship status in show run by FIFe
Fro January 1st 2009 they will be recognised as a preliminary breed. This means that they will be able to attend shows and be judged on their own merit against the standard of points. Until now they have been judged as an unrecognised breed or colour.
This is a very exciting prospect and we will be very busy showing our Neva Masquerade cats and kittens at various shows across the country in order to get them up to championship status.
The
Governing Council of the Cat Fancy
(G.C.C.F.) recognises the colourpoint siberian as a siberian but currently the siberian is not yet at championship status with the governing body. However lots of hard work is being undertaken to ensure that this happens.
