THE SIBERIAN CIRCLE - HISTORY
WRITTEN BY LORRAINE BROWN

I was one of the original few who introduced the siberian to the UK in 2002. My first two cats came in on pet passports from Italy and Russia in 2002 after spending the first nine months with my very good friend Fran Williamson in France. They were both girls so I had to find a boy.

I travelled to Germany to the home of Angelika Weidemann, who owns the Andokajas cattery, and chose others to join the girls. I joined up also with another friend, Jenny Carter, and we imported 3 cats from Angelika including our stud boy Champion Andokajas Shalimar II. he can still be seen in many pedigrees and was a wonderful stud boy.

It was very difficult at first to establish the breed and we worked hard to maintain the look of the siberian and produce enough kittens to establish a foundation from our first litter (two females). One went to Jenny (Koolblue Belle) and one to another friend who had joined us, Christine Campion. Our second litter (one boy) went to Scotland and in return we got an unrelated boy as a stud (Campana Snowbear). He has been most prolific and has produced wonderful kittens.

We then met Neil Fergeson-Blakeley, who was breeding siberians in the UK and had imported from Russia, Finland and Poland. We quickly became friends and the four of us work especially well together.

We now have a solid foundation and have totally unrelated cats. We have also learnt to be discerning about the cats that we breed and understand which are right for showing, breeding and as wonderful pets

To all of us the cats health and welfare are of the utmost importance and we believe that producing healthy happy cats is our goal.

We learn from each other and from other cat breeders in order to safeguard the future of this wonderful breed.

SHOWING YOUR CATS

If you need any help showing your siberians please do contact us. We attend as many shows as we can and can offer advice and support in this fulfilling pastime. We mostly attend Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe)  shows where the judges are accessible and the shows are hands-on.

They are good fun and promote the breed as well as introduce you to other breeds. We have made many friends at shows and enjoy our days there.
